Display Screen Equipment (DSE)

For many workers PCs, laptops, tablets and smartphones are an essential tool. Studies have shown that in all sectors of the economy, at all skill levels, interaction with Information Technology has increased over the past 15 years. Employers, have a duty protect workers from the health risks of working with display screen equipment (DSE).

The regulations apply to ‘DSE users’, workers who use DSE daily (for an hour or more at a time). The regulations don't apply to workers who use DSE infrequently or only use it for a short time. HSE Guidance Document L26 (link below) provides detailed information on how to assess who may be considered as DSE users.
