Display Screen Equipment (DSE)

Health Effects

Incorrect use of DSE, or poorly designed workstations or work environments can lead to pain in necks, shoulders, backs, arms, wrists and hands as well as fatigue and eye strain. The problems caused by DSE can be called Upper Limb Disorders (ULDs) but may be also be referred to as Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) or work-related upper limb disorders (WRULDs).

The use of DSE equipment does not cause permanent eye damage but it can make users more aware of problems and extended periods of working with DSE can lead to;

  • Tired eyes
  • Discomfort
  • Temporary short-sightedness
  • Headaches
